Final Major Project Pitch

Final Major Project Pitch

Today I pitched my two ideas for my final major project (FMP).  My two ideas are as follows:

Idea 1

·         Using skills that I have learnt whilst working on multi-camera studio sessions I want to create a documentary (lasting around 10-15 minutes.  The documentary will be an on-location multi-camera band profile.

·         The documentary will contain two different aspects; live performance and an interview, which will be linked together with cutaways, for example, restringing and tuning guitars.

·         As the production will be a multi-camera production I intend to use up to three cameras to shoot, giving me more variety with shots. One of the shots will be a wide establishing shot, capturing everything, and the other cameras will shoot facial close ups, guitar close ups and possibly tracking shots.

·         Where I decided to shoot will effect the scale of the production. For example, a full band profile may not feasible, whereas an acoustic profile will be. The scale will also depend on the musicians that I can work with.

·         In order for my piece to be successful I need to incorporate moving image and audio.  Before production I plan on shooting some experiments to develop my camera skills, as well as recording live audio to enhance my audio skills.

·         I want to exhibit the work by projecting my piece of moving image onto a screen.

Idea 2

·         I want to create a series of short experimentations documenting a space.  I plan on making around 6 short moving image pieces lasting roughly 2 minutes each.

·         I plan picking 6 different themes that can represent each piece of moving image.

From the response that in received it was clear that the ideas that I had come up with were very good, but it I was told that I needed to research more artist and filmmakers in order to achieve a higher grade.  As I am interested in experimental film and documentary I was told that I could combine the two to create something which allows me to explore different areas.

Final Major Project Idea

Recently I have been thinking about what I can produce for my final major project (FMP).  Prior to FMP I have been looking at experimental film, but as I am hoping to study television production at degree I have been thinking that I would like to produce a something that would be more suitable for this course and would enhance my camera skills.  I have had ideas of producing a documentary, a mulit-camera band profile on location.

Obviously this is still an idea that needs developingg and researching, so I plan on research the history of documentary, and research documentary filmmakers that I admire.  Not only am I going to research documentary explore different kinds of filmmaking for insperation that can help develop my production skills.

Twisted Wheel Session

Yesterday we had another client into the studio to film for a multi-camera studio session.  The client was Twisted Wheel, one of my favourite bands.  As they are one of my favourite bands I took this opportunity to interview the band, as I had knowledge of them.

I asked questions about their second album, changes in influence, change in lineup, what they hope to do when they have finished recording and also what they expect to do in the future.

In the multi-caemra studio session I decided that I would vision mix, due to the fact that I have worked behind the camera on several studio sessions, I felt that I could develop my skills.

Distorted

Today I decided that I would use some footage and distort the image and audio to make something look aesthetically unusual.  I added a fast blur to create the effect that its out of focus.  I then added loads of different effects to the audio too.

My Inspiration For Fear

I have looked at this image, 1932 by Francis Bacon for my main inspiration for my aspect of fear.  I have tried to recreate this image using a different medium, film.

What makes this image stand out as fear for me is the colours.  First of all I am going to start with the red, worn by the character.  Red symbolises blood, death, damage and more.

The colours used for the characters face are predominstaly dark.  My interpretation of this image is that the characters is lonely and suffering, and perhaps doesn't want to be seen.  I also see that the darker colours are trying to take over the characters complete face, which is something that I have tried to do in my film.

Hope; Fear; Desire Screenshots

The image above shows how I distorted the image.  I added a slight blur to the footage and duplicated it.
