Editing Mark Gardener Shoot

Today I decided that I would edit the footage filmed at The Grand of Mark Gardener, that we filmed last year.  The plan was to individually edit each part of the footage that we got, such as; acoustic performance, interview and live performance using footage from both cameras that we took to The Grand.  This also gave me the opportunity to view the footage for the first time and reflect on what could have been better, and what couldn't have.

Firstly, I think that the static establishing shots were extremely well done.  These shots obviously set the scene and allowed us to use the shot for safety as the other camera, which was roaming, had footage that could not have been used because the camera was either out of focus or the shots were shaking.  This was probably done to the fact that the camera wasn't placed on a try-pod, which I feel would have made the production look more professional, but at the same time I felt that the roaming camera gives the feel of an intermit venue and behind part of an audience.  I used both cameras whilst editing to vary the different shots being used, and faded in and out of each pieces of film.

I managed to get most of the footage edited into individual parts, which means that all that is left is to put the sections into the finished sequence which I plan to do tomorrow, then I will add the mastered audio, recorded over the mixing board to the profile so that it is complete.

Overall, I feel that today has been a productive day.  Not only have a nearly finished a piece of film that has been waiting to be be finished, but I have also learnt some new skills such as syncing up two different pieces of footage so that there are not continuity errors, and so that it runs through smoothly.
